Beauty For A Day

Friday, June 12, 2009

You can tell from my blog pictures that I love gardening! I especially love hydrangeas, but I love daylilies just as much. They are such a unique flower. The Latin name is Hemerocallis. The name comes from two Greek words meaning "beauty" and "day," because of the fact that each flower lasts only one day. They are absolutely beautiful this year and are at their peak right now! I have early, mid, and late blooming types, so the season extends to about 3 months. Each flower sends up a "scape," with lots of buds, so even though each bloom only lasts a day, there are more the next morning to bring joy and delight! (New every morning, like the mercies of God.)

Beautiful pictures!

The lilies reminded me of a very talented friend who made a flower arrangement for her church for a special service. She loved Day Lilies and picked some from her yard. The arrangement was stunning! One thing she didn't think of was the special service was at night and these lilies only bloom in the daytime! Hence, her beautiful arrangement looked pretty sad when she walked in to the church that evening!

Thank you for stopping by my blog.

"From one Pastor's wife to another" have a blessed weekend!

Love,
Sherry

I love to container garden. We're in the midst of a move, so I'll be picking up gardening this year at the new house. Lovely pictures.

I like the magenta colored ones the best, I think. Oh these are beautiful, Jan!

It made me think of Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady" and how the people said, it's like she's fresh out of a garden.

Jan, you are fresh out of a garden--and delightful!

What a treat to see your daylilies Jan. I *had* to click on the pictures to enjoy the beauty of each one. The lilies with the lavender edge and center are stunning, as are the ruffled pink crowns. The buds are so abundant too - oh, the beauty yet to come!

When we lived in the Carolina's we had daylilies that would bloom each year on Audra's birthday in June. (Her birthday is this week.) I like your statue of the lady with the baskets and enjoyed the yellow and purple blooms in the background too.

I too am especially fond of hydrangeas. And also very thankful that His mercies are new every morning.

Much love,
Lora
